Sally Salzman Morgan is an archaeologist and environmental planner. Although her primarily professional interest is prehistoric California archaeology, as an environmental planner at UCSC she discovered the Cowell Limeworks Historic District, with its many long-overlooked historic archaeological sites and historic structures. The archaeological sites provided an opportunity for Sally to work with student interns on field investigations. The failing historic structures, with their beautiful mortise and tenon joinery, have provided inspiration for campus and community to join in restoration efforts--and the restoration of the hay barn has been one result.
